Do I require a visa?

If you are travelling from overseas, you will need to apply for your visa. For more information on visas, please visit our visa information webpage.

Tap water in Brisbane is fresh and safe to drink.
Currency and Banking
The currency used in Australia is AUD. Please click here for an online converter. Once you’re here, you can exchange your currency in many places, including at the airport when you arrive. Brisbane has many foreign exchange shops across the city.

If you’d like to visit a bank or an ATM, Brisbane has all major and smaller banks throughout the city.

ATMs will take any international cards and nearly all international networks such as Cirrus, Plus, STAR international ATM mark, Interlink or Maestro POS mark. Travellers should contact their bank at home for information on availability and service charges. The most commonly accepted credit cards in Australia are American Express, Bankcard, Carte Blanche, Diners Club, MasterCard, Visa and BarclayCard.

ATMs usually dispense money in two lot’s, so please double check for money before leaving the machine.

Use ATMs that are affiliated with your home bank it will save you a few dollars every transaction.

What should one do in an emergency?

FIRE & EMERGENCY BRIEFING FOR CLIENTS
In the event of an evacuation, BCEC staff will act as fire wardens to assist in the movement of patrons to the designated assembly area located at South Bank TAFE site – located on the corner of Merivale & Glenelg Street, South Brisbane (see diagram above).

The Centre has two distinct alarms: ALERT (1st tone) will sound throughout the building when the fire alarm is activated, or EVACUATION (2nd tone) if there is a pending emergency.

FIRST TONE – (Alert)
Beep Beep Beep (Warning tone)

Should you hear the alert tone please adhere to the following:

  • prepare to evacuate
  • identify fire exits in your immediate area
  • await further instructions

Information regarding the situation will be announced by the Chief Fire Warden through the public address system within the Centre or follow staff directions.

SECOND TONE – (Evacuation)
Whoop Whoop Whoop (Emergency tone)

Should you hear the evacuation tone, please adhere to the following:

  • calmly make your way to the nearest emergency exit;
  • proceed to the designated assembly area where you will be briefed on the situation;
  • do not use lifts; and
  • follow staff instructions at all times.

Re-entry into the building will not occur until permission has been given by the Chief Fire Warden under the direction of the Qld Fire & Emergency Services.

If a fire is discovered at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre:

  • Remove persons from the immediate area.
  • Alert staff and other nearby occupants – Use a break glass alarm or dial 8 on any inhouse telephone.
  • Contain the fire by closing doors.
  • Extinguish, only if it is safe to do so, and you are confident in the use of the equipment.

During the Conference

Where do I register when I arrive at the Congress?

The registration desk will be located on the Foyer Level of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Follow the signs and make your way up the escalators or elevator.

Please direct any questions you may have regarding registration, session attendance or other elements of the congress to Leishman Associates staff at this desk.

How do I gain entry into the Congress Sessions?

Delegates will be provided with an individual name badge which will give you access to all sessions and social events that you have registered to attend. This must be worn at all times within the congress venue.

Will there be an electronic handbook and an App for the Congress?

An electronic copy of the handbook will be available for download from the website and emailed to you closer to the congress date. There will not be a printed copy available. An Event App will be available to download for iOS and Android through the App Stores.

Will there be WIFI at the Congress?

WIFI is available at the conference venue, Brisbane Convention Exhibition Centre.

How will I know if there have been any changes to the program?
Please check the app for the latest program. All updates will be made via the app.
Can I photograph or record the Congress Sessions?

Delegates are not permitted to use any type of camera or recording device at any of the sessions unless written permission has been obtained from the relevant speaker. A professional photographer will be at the congress, if you have any issues with being photographed please notify the photographer or Leishman Associates staff.

Is there security at the Congress?
The members of the Organising Committee and Leishman Associates accept no liability for personal accident of loss or damage suffered by any participant, accompanying person, invited observer or any other person by whatever means. Nor do we accept liability for any equipment or software brought to the conference by delegates, speakers, sponsors or any other party. Please protect your personal property. Do not leave laptops, cameras, and other valuable items unsecured.

Be conscious of individuals who appear out of place and do not wear a conference name badge. Advise Leishman Associates staff if this occurs.

Registration & Social Functions

What is included in my registration?

Full Registration includes attendance to all sessions from 23- 27 September 2024. Full registration also includes, satchel, name badge, lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments, and entry to the Welcome Reception. Tickets to the conference dinner may be purchased separately at $100 each via the registration portal.

Day Registration includes attendance to sessions on the nominated day of attendance, satchel, name badge, and lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments on the day of attendance. Day registration does not include any of the social program functions. Tickets to attend any of the social functions need to be purchased separately.

I have special dietary requirements – What do I do?

You must advise if you have any special dietary requirements when you register for the congress. Caterers at each function will be informed of these. During the day there will be a buffet table offering food suitable for dietary requirements. If you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to ask staff at the registration desk.

IMPORTANT– If your dietary request relates to a life-threatening allergy, please ensure that you advise the organisers as soon as possible.

How do I know if I’m registered for a social function?
After registering for the congress you will be emailed a Registration Confirmation which lists all social functions for which you are registered. If you require another copy please email lucy@laevents.com.au.
Can I bring a partner along to the social functions?

Yes, you most certainly can – additional tickets can be booked when you registered online, or through the Leishman Associates office. Please email your request to sharon@laevents.com.au if you have already registered. During the congress, bookings can be made at the registration desk, subject to availability. Ticket fees may apply.

Speaker, Chairperson or Poster Presenter

I am a Chairperson, what should I do?
Chairpersons will receive an email prior to the congress, reminding them of their responsibilities. If you are a chairperson and do not receive this, or have additional questions, please contact lucy@laevents.com.au at Leishman Associates (03 6234 7844).
I am a speaker, what should I do?
Please note the Speakers Preparation Room, which is located in the Mezzanine M10, on the Mezzanine Level of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Please ensure that you upload your presentation via the technicians located in this room. This should be completed three hours before your presentation time. PLEASE do not go to the meeting room with a USB.

Accommodation

How do I book my accommodation?

You can book your accommodation through the online registration form.

How do I pay for my accommodation?

When you book your accommodation your credit card details will be provided to the hotel you have selected. Your credit card will not be charged when you make the initial booking. If the credit card you intend on using to pay for the accommodation does not belong to you, the hotel will require an authority form to be signed. Please read the terms and conditions before booking your room.

Cancellation and Disclaimer

I need to cancel my registration, what do I do?
Cancellations must be received in writing – mail, or email – to Leishman Associates. Cancellations will not be deemed to be received until you have written confirmation from Leishman Associates. If you have not received acknowledgement within two business days, please contact Leishman Associates on (03) 6234 7844.

Should it be necessary to cancel your registration due to Government imposed travel restrictions, we will provide you with a full refund, minus any bank fees incurred. Evidence may be requested, and each situation scenario will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Refunds for any other reason will adhere to the following cancellation terms:

Registration Fees:

  • Cancellations on and before 90 days prior the event will incur a A$150.00 cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations on or before 60 days prior to the event will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations on or after 30 days prior to the event will receive no refund.

Event Cancellation or Postponement

The members of the Committee and Leishman Associates do not accept any liability for losses incurred in the event being cancelled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances or any other event that renders performance of the event inadvisable, illegal, impracticable, or impossible.

An unforeseen event shall include but shall not be limited to: an Act of God; infectious disease outbreak, industrial disruptions, service provider failures, governmental restrictions and/or regulations; war or apparent act of war; terrorism or apparent act of terrorism; disaster; civil disorder, disturbance, and/or riots; curtailment, suspension, and/or restriction on transportation; or any other emergency.
Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights of the event, and all materials distributed at or in connection with the event is owned by the Host, Leishman Associates, Sponsors, &/or Speakers presenting at the event. Participants may not use, reproduce or allow anyone to use or reproduce any trademarks or other trade names appearing at the conference, content, or in any materials distributed at or in connection with the Conference for any reason without the prior written permission from the Host.

No part of the event may be recorded, reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronically or mechanically, including but not limited to video or audio recording, photography, photocopying or any other information storage or retrieval system known now or in the future, without the explicit written permission of the Host.
