Call for Abstracts

SUBMISSIONS NOW CLOSED

The 45th ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine provides a forum that allows us to discuss our experiences, and review our concepts and ideas. The Scientific Program Committee will be seeking to create a program that addresses a spread of issues and professional experiences that attract a broad discipline of attendees. The Scientific Program Committee would therefore like to take this opportunity to invite you to submit an abstract.

Topics can include, but are not restricted to:

Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear
Military Health and Wellbeing – Mental Health, Gender & Health and Musculoskeletal Occupational
Forward Support Operations – Military, Domestic and Regional Support
Military Health Support – Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Vet Science and Logistics

Terms for Submissions
Presentation Types

Short Oral Presentation (5 minutes)

Short oral presentation take place during concurrent sessions. Each presentation is  a 5-minute session. If you wish to have Q&A as part of your presentation. We recommend not having more than 5-6 presentation slides.

Short Oral Presentation (10 minutes)

Short oral presentation take place during concurrent sessions. Each presentation is  a 10-minute session. If you wish to have Q&A as part of your presentation. We would recommend not more than 3 minutes for Q&A.

Short Oral Presentation (15 minutes)

Short oral presentation take place during concurrent sessions. Each presentation is  a 10-minute session. If you wish to have Q&A as part of your presentation. We would recommend not more than 5 minutes for Q&A.

Oral Presentation (20 minutes)

Selected authors will be invited to present their papers in an appropriate session. Each presentation is 15 minutes long with 5 minutes for Q&A at the end of your presentation.

Poster Presentation

Submissions should relate to the themes and authors should nominate poster when submitting their abstract. Abstracts submitted for oral presentations that have not been accepted may be invited to provide a poster presentation.

Display time to be confirmed. Presenters need to bring their printed poster in A0 size (portrait) to the registration desk where they will be directed to their allocated poster board. Presenters need to adhere the poster to the poster board by morning tea time on Wednesday, 25 September 2024 and retrieve their poster after the last session on Thursday, 26 September 2024 . Uncollected posters will be disposed of.

We will be using display boards that will require either velcro dots or blue tac. We will have a limited supply on site of each.

Workshop 

An interactive workshop and ensure that the content is engaging. Selected workshops would be slotted into the main congress program.

The Submission Process

New Submission

  • Log in to the Presentation Portal via the Congress Website. You will need to create an online account first – enter your email address and password.
  • You will be taken to a screen from which the submission process starts. Please read the instructions on this screen carefully. You will need to update your details before you can submit your abstract.
  • Submitting an abstract is a multi-step process. Each step asks several questions. Some questions are marked “required”, and you will not be able to complete your submission until these questions have been answered.
  • If you stop half way through the process, your submission will be held in draft until you return and complete all the questions. When you log in again you can click on your incomplete submission and resume the process.
  • Make sure that you submit your proposal by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions before pressing the “submit” button, any proposals left in ‘draft’ mode will not be submitted for review. You will receive a confirmation email for each successful abstract submitted. If you do not receive an email, log in again to check your proposal in “Edit Abstract/s”. Please note once you have submitted your abstract you cannot edit it again. However, you can leave your submission in “draft” mode and make changes up until the time you submit it.

Amending a Submission in “draft” mode

You may wish to change your answers to some of the questions on the submission form, or even change the abstract itself.

  • Log in to the presentation portal, and click on the “Edit Abstract/s” tab.
  • You will see a list of the proposals that you have in draft mode or have submitted. Click on the “Edit” button next to the draft abstract you wish to change and submit.
  • Amending an abstract is just the same as for the original submission process.
  • When you reach the final ‘Submit’ step, click on the button stating that you “Agree to the Terms and Conditions” and click “Submit”. If this button is not available, look at the steps on the left-hand table and address the missing information that does not have a tick.
Terms for Submissions

Authors MUST submit a separate abstract for each presentation put forward for consideration.

Abstracts must be received no later than 9 February 2024.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the presentation portal. Faxed abstracts will not be accepted.

Abstracts must be no longer than 600 words.

The presenter’s biography must be provided and be no longer than 200 words.

Notification of Acceptance will be provided in the week of week of 11 March 2024.

Abstracts may be reproduced in the online congress proceedings.

We also request permission to reproduce your power point presentation on the Congress website when uploading your presentation onsite. 

At least one author of each accepted submission will agree to register for the congress, pay the appropriate registration fee, and present as scheduled.
