Igor Ivashchenko is the Deputy Chief of the Medical Service of the 1st International Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). When the war began, Igor and his wife were vacationing with friends in Georgia. They returned to Ukraine within two days to find their hometown of Irpin already occupied by the Russians. Igor immediately volunteered with the CF “Soloma Cats” in Kyiv, where he conducted training at the ASM level and helped provide first aid kits to 23,000 servicemen.
With a diverse background in healthcare, Igor has served as the Deputy Minister for European Integration, focusing on European integration and pharmaceutical policy, and as the National Healthcare System Partner at Roche Ukraine. His extensive experience in both governmental and corporate healthcare sectors has equipped him with unique insights into medical service delivery and policy implementation.
In his current role, Igor not only provides medical care to servicemen but also works on identifying gaps and improving training programs in tactical medicine. His team is pioneering the use of ground drones for evacuation and conducting detailed data collection on injury types, the care provided, and its effectiveness at stabilisation points servicing some of the most intense battlelines since World War Two.
Igor Ivashchenko’s firsthand experience, having been mobilized to the Ukrainian Army like many other civilians, brings invaluable insights into the practical challenges and solutions in tactical medicine. His keynote address will delve into the extreme tactical conditions faced by the Medical Service of the International Legion, the vital lessons learned, and the adaptations in tactical combat casualty care. Attendees can expect an informative and enlightening presentation, rich with practical knowledge and strategic conclusions.
